Stocker Pond and Erosion
Dating back to the late 1960s with the construction of Interstate 89, Stocker Pond has succumbed to major impacts from soil erosion. Even now, more than half a century later, the growth of mature vegetation still is no match for high volume rain events. Downpours bring torrents of water down the hillside, overwhelming culverts which pour into the Pond, depositing damaging sediments and salts.
Unfortunately, the State will not assist directly with mitigation affecting personal property. On the other hand, they have produced an excellent website titled Soak up the Rain New Hampshire which provides a large number of options for property owners.
In particular, do-it-yourself stormwater solutions for your property are available in the document New Hampshire Homeowner's Guide to Stormwater Management. With recent and increasingly dramatic rain events, this guide provides a multitude of options for mitigating damage to personal property and to the water quality of Stocker Pond.
